Insignia Solutions and Red Bend Software to Build Interoperability Based on OMA DM Standard

    Business Editors/High-Tech Editors

FREMONT, Calif. & FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 2005--Insignia Solutions (NASDAQ:INSG), a standards-based provider of mobile device management solutions, and Red Bend Software, a provider of firmware over-the-air (FOTA) update solutions, announced today that they have entered into an agreement to work together to build interoperability between Insignia's Secure System Provisioning v2 (SSPv2) server product and Red Bend's vCurrent Mobile client product. Proven interoperability between client and server components is a requirement for an effective FOTA solution.
In addition, Red Bend agreed to a non-exclusive buyout license of Insignia's Open Management Client (OMC), an implementation of the Open Mobile Alliance Device Management (OMA-DM) client specification. Under this agreement, Red Bend will control future development, support and distribution of its version of the client, in compliance with the OMA-DM standard. With this technology, the Red Bend vCurrent Mobile update client will interoperate with OMA-DM standards-based device management platforms, including Insignia's SSPv2 solution.
Mobile handset manufacturers and network operators are implementing FOTA solutions in order to quickly, reliably and cost-effectively update firmware on mobile phones already in the hands of users. These solutions, which are being deployed in volume in all major markets in 2005, allow handset makers and operators to reduce support costs, improve customer service, and more rapidly deliver new services and features to customers.
Insignia's Secure System Provisioning v2 provides an advanced, rules-based intelligent mobile device management system that supports hundreds of existing phone models as well as new phones based on the OMA-DM and OMA-CP open standards. SSPv2 provides a complete set of device management features including parameter-provisioning capabilities for GPRS, WAP, MMS, other settings and OTA firmware update.
Red Bend has established a strong position in the FOTA update market and has secured global agreements with several of the largest mobile handset manufacturers, including Siemens Mobile and Sony Ericsson. Using patented technology, Red Bend's vCurrent Mobile generates extremely compact firmware update packages that can be delivered efficiently over-the-air, and installs them quickly and reliably on mobile handsets. These installations have been proven to be highly reliable within the limited memory available on mobile phones, even when power is lost.
"The cooperation between Red Bend and Insignia on standards-based mobile device management will significantly benefit the customers of both companies through the delivery of reliable and interoperable multi-vendor solutions to the market. We are pleased to be cooperating with Red Bend in this area," said Mark McMillan, President and CEO of Insignia Solutions.
