Insignia ICE to Be Launched at 3GSM World Congress; Rules Engine Driven Technology Greatly Enhances Mobile Device Management Capabilities

    3GSM World Congress 2005

CANNES, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2005--Insignia Solutions(R) (NASDAQ:INSG) today announced that it is launching a fundamentally new way of managing mobile devices named ICE -- Intelligent service Creation Environment -- at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France on February 14. Insignia ICE(TM) enables Operators to quickly build and deploy intelligent workflows that use a powerful rules engine to personalize the enablement of mobile services and automate diagnostic and multi-step device management functions.
This news complements the news of February 10, when Insignia announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire mi4e Device Management AB, a private company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. mi4e is a leading provider of client provisioning device-management software and services to mobile operators, virtual operators and value-added service providers. This acquisition enables Insignia to offer a more complete solution to mobile network operators and handset manufacturers. Insignia also announced on February 10th that it has entered into a new $12 million securities subscription agreement with Fusion Capital LLC, with an option for a second $12 million tranche of equity financing at the company's sole discretion.
Insignia ICE provides a visual Workflow Studio and Rules Studio for a drag and drop environment that eliminates the need for the costly re-programming and re-deployment of competitive systems. Insignia ICE will be available as part of the Insignia Secure System Provisioning v2 offering, a comprehensive device management system that supports the latest OMA-DM standards as well as hundreds of today's phone models.
"Insignia ICE brings sophisticated rules engine intelligence to mobile device management," said Peter Bernard, Chief Product Officer, Insignia. "This not only makes today's offering from Insignia extremely valuable for a wide range of configuration, activation, and repair functions, but it also provides a platform for the future to enable a whole new set of capabilities for mobile operators."
With Insignia SSP v2 and ICE, operators can create intelligent workflows that use rules to make decisions about how to repair, configure, or upgrade specific phones based on a wide range of external data, including model information, billing information, demographics, network alerts, fraud detection systems, or other factors. These workflows can weave together many individual device management functions that have traditionally required single-step, manual execution by the operator, allowing the operator to deliver increased customization and efficiency to users.
The inventory of available jobs to be used in these intelligent workflows will increase over time as Insignia incorporates third party functionality and supports new industry standards from the OMA, OSGI, JCP and other standards bodies. This provides Insignia's customers with virtually unlimited extensibility.
Insignia SSP v2 with ICE brings a fundamentally new level of capabilities to mobile device management systems. For example, it is the ideal vehicle to launch sophisticated diagnostics, taking input in real-time from the network and phone and intelligently repairing or notifying other systems. It also provides a powerful vehicle for phone personalization, downloading new user interfaces and configuring mobile services based on demographic information upon activation.
