Gold Stocks Lift TSX At Open Wednesday

(RTTNews) - Bay Street stocks edged up at open Wednesday amid buying in gold stocks, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index adding 15.97 points or 0.12 percent to 13,365.74.

The Global Gold Index was up nearly 2 percent, with Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM.TO) and Seabridge Gold (SEA.TO) adding around 3 percent each.

Goldcorp. (G.TO) and Barrick Gold (ABX.TO) were up around 2 percent each.

Iamgold (IMG.TO) gained over 2 percent after announcing that it along with its subsidiary, Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. will fund the development and operation of a solar power project with an installed capacity of five megawatts in Suriname.

In the oil patch, Baytex Energy Corp. (BTE.TO) and Crescent Point Energy (CPG.TO) were down nearly 2 percent each.
