Genesee & Wyoming June Traffic Rises 104.5% - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Genesee & Wyoming Inc., (GWR) or G&W, an owner and operator of short line and regional freight railroads, Friday said traffic in June increased 104.5 percent to 155,757 carloads compared with last June. G&W's traffic in the second quarter was 480,979 carloads, a 107 percent increase from the same period last year.

The company, for comparative purposes, provided supplemental 2012 carload information on a pro forma basis as though the RailAmerica Inc or RA railroads were owned by G&W on January 1, 2012.

On a pro forma basis, the total carloads for June were 8382, a 5.7 percent increase from the previous year. For the second quarter, the company saw traffic increase of 7.7 percent on a pro forma basis, from the corresponding quarter last year.

For the month of June, Coal & Coke traffic increased 2,968 carloads, primarily due to increased shipments in G&W's Midwest and Central regions. Petroleum products traffic increased 2,372 carloads primarily due to increased shipments of crude oil and liquid petroleum gases in G&W's Pacific, Southern and Mountain West regions. Metals traffic increased 1,656 carloads primarily due to increased shipments in G&W's Southern and Ohio Valley regions. All remaining traffic increased by a net 2 carloads, G&W said in a statement.
