Firefox Deal Helps Yahoo Gain On Google

(RTTNews) - Yahoo's search share in the U.S. has continued to improve, according to latest data by StatCounter, a web traffic analysis firm.

StatCounter says Yahoo had 10.9 percent share of the U.S. search market in January, its best ever in over five years. Google continues to lead the search arena, but saw its January share dropping 2 percentage points in as many months to 74.8 percent. Microsoft's Bing had a share of 12.4 percent.

In November, Mozilla, the maker of popular browser Firefox, switched its primary search engine from Google to Yahoo in a deal that will expire in five years. Following the Firefox deal, Yahoo's search ratings has increased. In November StatCounter said Yahoo had a U.S. market share in search of 8.6 percent.

Firefox users generated about 14 percent of US internet usage in January.
