(RTTNews) - Charter Communications Inc. (CHTR) reported that its third-quarter net loss narrowed to $70 million or $0.68 per share, from $87 million or $0.87 per share in the same quarter last year, primarily due to lower interest expense, lower income tax expense, and higher income from operations.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.10 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
On a pro forma basis, net loss for the last year was $103 million or $1.03 per share.

Third quarter 2013 revenues rose to $2.1 billion, 5.4% higher on a pro forma basis than the year-ago quarter, due to growth in video, Internet and commercial revenues. On an actual basis, third quarter revenue rose 12.7%, driven primarily by the acquisition of Bresnan, which closed on July 1, 2013.
