Barbara Cox is recognized by Continental Who's Who
MARYVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Who's Who recognizes Barbara Cox as a Pinnacle Professional Member in recognition of her contributions to the field of Physical Therapy.
Prior to her retirement, Cox worked as a physical therapist for 52 years, offering rehabilitation services with quality care. She has taken on roles industry wide, including business and personnel management as well as management in hospital settings. Her resume includes positions at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas and she was the area manager at the Rehability Rehab Center.
"When I was a young girl, Polio was still rampant," Cox said. "The stories of the people who received care during the Polio days inspired me to help people."
Cox's primary expertise is in evaluating patients, designing treatment programs, geriatrics and mentoring students and new graduates. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Texas and soon after took on her first job as a physical therapist at a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Additionally, Cox served as a certified Lamaze instructor for 18 years, while simultaneously working physical therapy jobs and running her own practice.
"I [did] whatever it takes to make them [patients] better," Cox said. "My type of work [allowed] me to use my own knowledge and creativity to help them."
When asked about her favorite part of practicing physical therapy, Cox said her "consistently favorite part of [her] practice has been working with geriatric patients. My biggest reward has been the gratitude of the patients and their families."
To further her professional development, Cox is a member of the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association and the American Physical Therapy Association. Prior to that, she held many positions in the Texas Physical Therapy Association. She has also been affiliated with Skilled Nursing Home and Home Health Care for the past 20 years.
Cox dedicates this recognition to her husband, Murray C. Cox, and thanks him for his support and encouragement. She also dedicates it to her sons, Brian Cox and Clay Cox.
