American Financial Group Q4 Profit Up - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - American Financial Group Inc. (AFG) Thursday reported fourth-quarter profit of $158 million or $1.73 per share, up from $50 million or $0.54 per share in the same period last year.

Operating earnings for the quarter were $117 million or $1.28 per share. On average, seven analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $1.22 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Revenues increased to $1.36 billion from $1.21 billion last year. P&C insurance net earned premiums totaled $859 million, up from $756 million last year. Analysts expected revenues of $840.70 million.

Looking ahead to the fiscal year 2014, the company currently projects operating earnings in the order of $4.50 to $4.90 per share. Analysts currently expect full-year earnings of $4.59 per share.
