Alvarion Receives Initial Orders from Centrowave to Deliver Wireless F
Business Editors/High-Tech Editors
TEL-AVIV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 2005--Alvarion Ltd. (NASDAQ:ALVR), the world's leading provider of wireless broadband solutions and specialized mobile networks, and its strategic partner, Siemens Communication Networks Ltd., announced today the receipt of initial orders for $0.5 million from Centrowave, an alternative carrier in Austria.
Centrowave selected Alvarion's WALKair 3000(TM) solution to build an LMDS broadband wireless point to multipoint network in the heart of Vienna using the 26 GHz frequency band. The network will provide high-capacity IP services to business customers over broadband wireless. By doing so, Centrowave will avoid the high costs of laying fiber in the city center and the surrounding areas. The LMDS network, utilizing the symmetrical 36 Mbps per channel of the WALKair 3000, will provide very high speed broadband IP, leased line, and TDM voice services to large and medium business customers.
"Going with a wireless solution simply proved to be a better economic option than all the others, especially when compared to fiber," related Sascha Konul, CEO of Centrowave. "We find the low initial investment to be a very attractive factor, combined with the ability to immediately offer our subscribers a fast broadband currently available. Given this network will service commercial and banking needs, its versatility meshes well with our various customers."
Specifically designed for new and established carriers, Alvarion's WALKair 3000 is optimal for high-capacity voice and data last-mile solutions by ensuring dependable, robust service. Upon deployment, Centrowave will optimize its business case with services to any size customer, at the highest coverage capacity available. Secure and "always-on" banking service connections are among the planned uses for this high-speed wireless broadband.
"Centrowave joins the growing number of Alvarion customers who now serve users in developed, urban sectors as alternatives to fiber," commented Tzvika Friedman, President of Alvarion. "More and more, carriers of all sizes see Alvarion's broad and flexible product line as ideal for meeting their diverse needs and service areas. In this case, WALKair 3000 is perfectly suited for the services and speeds demanded in urban areas while supporting rapid roll-out with a minimal initial investment and quick return on investment."
"We are proud that Centrowave has chosen us for this challenging project," said Dietmar Appeltauer, President of Siemens Com in Austria. "Alvarion's field-proven technology and systems have performed consistently well for operators to fill broadband coverage "gaps," as even urban areas are far from 100 percent coverage with fiber. We look forward to continued cooperation with Alvarion, and we will be available to offer support for this project."
