The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic Opens in Oklahoma City with Launch Event Featuring Governor Kevin Stitt
Cohen Veterans Network expands footprint in Oklahoma with this 2nd Cohen Clinic to fill gaps in mental healthcare for post-9/11 veterans, service members and their families
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 24, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Cohen Veterans Network (CVN) and Red Rock Behavioral Health Services formally unveiled The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Red Rock in Oklahoma City. This clinic is the second Cohen Clinic in Oklahoma, with the Lawton clinic opening in 2020. Both provide confidential, high-quality, behavioral health care services and local resource connection to post-9/11 veterans, service members and their families.
The Cohen Clinics in Oklahoma are part of Cohen Veterans Network (CVN), a not-for-profit philanthropic organization launched by financier-philanthropist Steven A. Cohen's $275 million commitment to help reduce veteran suicide and increase care for military families by building 25 clinics across the country. The Oklahoma City clinic is the 24th in the network.
"We are excited to open this location to further meet the needs of veterans, service members and military families in Oklahoma," said Dr. Anthony Hassan, President and CEO of Cohen Veterans Network. "We appreciate having Governor Stitt, Senator Rosino, and other prominent leaders attend to help us mark this occasion."
Joining Dr. Hassan on stage before an audience of more than 100 active military, veterans, mental health providers and other advocates were Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt; Oklahoma Senator Paul Rosino; Commissioner of Okla. Dept. of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services Carrie Slatton-Hodges; Adjutant General for Oklahoma National Guard Major General Thomas H. Mancino; CEO of Red Rock Behavioral Health Services Verna Foust; Clinic Director of the Cohen Clinic at Red Rock Amista Chambers; and Medal of Honor Recipient and CVN Ambassador Ryan Pitts.
"It is an honor to be here today to help open this facility in Oklahoma City," said Gov. Stitt. "Cohen Veterans Network and Red Rock are doing remarkable work in our state, and we are very pleased to be supporting their efforts to help those who have served our country."
Since its inception in 2016, CVN has helped more than 60,000 clients across the country, delivering more than 500,000 clinical sessions. The Cohen Clinics treat a variety of behavioral health challenges, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder, using evidence-based practices (EBPs) – the current, best practices available, based on research.
"I'm proud to have worked with Cohen Veterans Network to help bring two of their clinics to our state," said Sen. Rosino. "This is a wonderful example of how a public-private partnership can benefit a population in need."
The new clinic is the result of a public-private partnership between CVN and the State of Oklahoma's Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse.
"This clinic stands as a testament to the power of collaboration," said Commissioner Slatton-Hodges. "By working together with Red Rock, we are taking a proactive approach to tackling the mental health challenges faced by our veterans. Their sacrifices deserve our unwavering commitment."
Statewide, there are more than 67,000 post-9/11 veterans, 24,000 family members, and more than 33,000 active duty service members – all eligible for care at the Cohen Clinics. CVN treats the entire military family: approximately 46% of clients across the network are non-veterans. This includes parents, siblings, spouses or partners, children, caretakers, and others. Approximately 54% of all clients are veterans or active duty. Since the Lawton clinic's opening, they have delivered more than 1,200 episodes of care in Oklahoma, via in-person care and CVN Telehealth, face-to-face video therapy.
"The opening of the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic marks a significant milestone in our mission to provide comprehensive mental health care to all Oklahomans," said Foust. "Our dedicated clinicians will work tirelessly to support veterans, military families, and service members, offering evidence-based practices tailored to individual needs."
