Karim Zaghib, Hydro-Québec researcher: One of the most influential scientists in the world three years in a row

MONTRÉAL, Dec. 4, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - For the third year running, Hydro-Québec's Karim Zaghib has made the Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) list of The World's Most Influential Scientific Minds, one of the most prestigious honors in the field.

Karim Zaghib, General Director - Center of excellence in transportation electrification and energy storage (CNW Group/Hydro-Québec)

The distinction is awarded to those scientists most frequently cited by fellow researchers in the past 11 years and who have had an exceptional impact in their field of research. Clarivate Analytics has honored more than 3,300 of the 9 million researchers it has surveyed around the world. Researchers on the list are an exclusive group, ranking in the top 1% of most-cited scientists in their fields.

Over two million scientific papers are published each year, so assessing the quality of each is a tremendous challenge. Tracking the number of citations by other researchers is a good way to identify papers with the greatest impact in their field, in turn marking them as the most valuable. Mr. Zaghib's presence on this list year after year offers further evidence of Hydro-Québec's enviable position in the area of scientific research on battery materials.

Recognized by his peers

At its Nara, Japan conference, the International Battery Association presented Mr. Zaghib with the IBA Technology Award 2017. The prestigious annual award recognizes outstanding contributions to the advancement of battery technology.

Mr. Zaghib holds a doctorate in electrochemistry from the Institut polytechnique de Grenoble, France, and has worked at Hydro-Québec for 22 years, where he is General Director, Center of excellence in transportation electrification and energy storage. A veteran researcher with a solid reputation in scientific circles, he has developed many partnerships with universities and industrial companies worldwide, including the Berkeley Lab in California and the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC in Germany.
