After-market Movers For May 15 (JCP, AMAT, ADSK, JWN, OVRL, DCIN)

J. C. Penney Company, Inc. (JCP) surged 19 percent to $9.95 as the company's first quarter results topped Wall Street view. Same store sales for the quarter increased 6.2 percent. The company anticipates second quarter and 2014 comparable store sales to increase in mid-single digits.

Applied Materials, Inc. (AMAT) gained 4 percent to $19.40. The company swung to a profit in its second quarter. Adjusted earnings per share and net sales matched Wall Street view. The company guided third quarter adjusted earnings per share in line with analysts' estimate and net sales to be in the range of flat to down 5 percent sequentially and up by about 13 to 19 percent year-over-year.

Autodesk, Inc. (ADSK) improved 4 percent to $49.90. The company's first quarter adjusted earnings per share and revenue topped analysts' expectations. The company forecast second quarter adjusted earnings per share in line with Street view and revenue above market view.

Nordstrom Inc. (JWN) was up 8 percent to $66.60. The company's first quarter profit declined from the year-ago quarter, but topped analysts' view. Sales increased 6.8 percent, while comparable sales for the quarter increased 3.3 percent. The company backed its full-year 2014 earnings per share guidance, in line with analysts' estimate.

Trading halt:

Trading in shares of Overland Storage Inc. (OVRL) was halted. The company and Sphere 3D Corp. (ANY.V) announced a definitive merger agreement. The total consideration payable to holders of Overland equity in the transaction has an implied value of approximately $81.13 million or approximately $4.43 per Share.

Trading in shares of Digital Cinema Destinations Corp. (DCIN) or Digiplex was halted. Carmike Cinemas, Inc. (CKEC) agreed to buy Digiplex in an all stock deal. Each Digiplex share will be exchanged for 0.1775 shares of Carmike common stock.
